#ENGVOCAB: PHRASAL VERBS “BRING”


E.g.: His urgent letter finally brought me around to donate to the flood victims.
2a. Bring down – mengurangi, menurunkan.
E.g.: The ministers agreed to bring down the price of petrol. *in your dream*
2b. Bring down – menghancurkan, merubuhkan.
E.g.: We need to bring down the building before we could proceed with the construction.
2c. Bring down – menjatuhkan kekuasaan.
E.g.: The scandal may bring down the government.
2d. Bring down – membuat seseorang jadi sedih.
E.g.: Why on earth are you still looking at his photo? It will only bring you down.
3. Bring forth – melahirkan dan membesarkan.
E.g.: The kind lady brought forth a good looking son.
4a. Bring forward – menunjukkan, mempresentasikan, mengajukan.
E.g.: Please bring the matter forward at the next meeting.
4b. Bring forward – memindahkan jumlah akhir pembukuan ke periode baru.
E.g.: The credit balance was brought forward from last month.
5. Bring in – menghasilkan.
E.g.: Her business brings in significant profits. The garage sale brought in about 5 million Rupiah.
6. Bring off – berhasil mengatasi sesuatu yang sangat sulit. E.g.: It was a difficult task, but we brought it off.
7. Bring on – menyebabkan, mendatangkan.
E.g.: She has brought shame on herself and her family by her disgraceful behavior.
8a. Bring out – menerbitkan, memproduksi.
E.g.: Do you know that Kesaint Blanc brought out a new book on TOEFL this month?
8b. Bring out – merawat dan mengembangkan mutu sesuatu atau seseorang.
E.g.: I am nothing without you. You bring out the best in me.
9. Bring over – mengajak seseorang dari tempat lain.
E.g.: Pak Tarno hopes to bring his entire family over from the village.
10. Bring under – mengendalikan kelompok yang bermasalah. E.g.: There’s a riot, but the guards quickly brought the rebels under.
11a. Bring up – memelihara, membesarkan dan mendidik anak. E.g.: Ask your mum. She must know. She’s brought up 5 kids.
11b. Bring up-membicarakan, mengungkit suatu hal.
E.g:I don’t think it’s appropriate to bring up their debt in this time of grief.
